Thailand visa for Mongolians 2026: 30 days by treaty

What changed for Mongolians on 15 September 2026

For Mongolian passport holders, 15 September 2026 did not bring any change. The wider Visa on Arrival reform introduced on that date reshaped entry rules for several other nationalities, but Mongolia's 30-day visa-free stay rests on a separate bilateral agreement between Thailand and Mongolia and sits outside that reform. In practice, this means Mongolians can keep planning trips exactly as before: the same 30 days on arrival, the same immigration checks, and the same extension option once inside the country. If you were told that Mongolians now need to apply for a visa on arrival or lost visa-free access, that is not correct — the treaty stay for Mongolian passport holders continues without interruption.

Before you fly

• Check that your Mongolian passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Thailand and has at least one blank page left for the immigration stamp.
• Have proof of onward or return travel ready to show, as immigration officers at the counter can ask for it before allowing Mongolian passport holders the 30-day stay.
• Keep accessible funds on hand, since spot checks can require Mongolians to show at least 20,000 THB per person, or 40,000 THB for a travelling family.
• Submit the Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours of landing, since every Mongolian passport holder must file it free of charge no matter what visa status they travel on.

Staying longer than 30 days

If 30 days isn't enough, Mongolians have a few legitimate ways to stay longer. Before your stamp expires, you can apply at an immigration office for a single extension of up to 30 days, paying 1,900 THB. If you know in advance that you'll want more flexibility, an e-Visa applied for from home before departure gives a single-entry 60-day stay, also extendable once by 30 days for the same fee. For remote work or a long course of study, the Destination Thailand Visa lets Mongolians stay up to 180 days per entry over five years, provided you can show the required funds. Land-border hopping to reset the clock is capped at two visa-free entries a year, so it isn't a workable substitute for these routes.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Mongolians aren't among the nationalities allowed through the automated e-gates, so you'll head to the Foreign Passport counters and go through the queue with an immigration officer. Have your passport and the QR code from your Digital Arrival Card ready, since officers scan it alongside your passport before stamping you in for your 30-day stay. Keeping the QR code accessible on your phone or printed out speeds things up, especially if the counters are busy when your flight lands.
