Thailand Visa on Arrival 2026: three countries only
Visa on Arrival was cut from 31 countries to three on 15 September 2026. If your passport is not Azerbaijani, Belarusian or Serbian, the e-Visa before departure is the route.
Who can still use it
The Ministry of Interior regulation of 31 August 2026 (document 128704) limits Visa on Arrival to citizens of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. The 28 other countries that had it, including most of Central Asia, the Caucasus and several island states, now apply for an e-Visa before travelling.
What it costs and what it allows
2,000 THB, paid in cash in Thai baht at the Visa on Arrival counter before immigration. The stay is 15 days and cannot be extended. Bring a passport photo, proof of an onward ticket within 15 days, the address of your first night and proof of funds. The counters at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang have their own queue, which is often longer than the immigration queue behind it.
Why the e-Visa is usually better
The e-Visa is applied for online before departure, usually takes 3 to 10 working days, allows 60 days instead of 15, and can be extended once by 30 days. Airlines accept it at check-in, so there is no risk of a discussion at the gate. Visa on Arrival is worth it only for a short trip decided at the last minute.
