What changed for Belarusians on 15 September 2026

On 15 September 2026, Thai authorities narrowed Visa on Arrival down from 31 nationalities to just three, following a Ministry of Interior regulation published that August. Belarusians were one of the few passports to keep the arrangement, alongside Azerbaijan and Serbia, while 28 other nationalities lost the option and now need a visa arranged before travel. For a Belarusian traveller, this means the process at the airport stays largely the same as before: you still pay 2,000 THB in cash on arrival and receive a 15-day stamp, rather than having to apply for anything in advance. It's worth double-checking your eligibility close to your travel dates, since the rules around Visa on Arrival have already changed once this year and could be adjusted again.

Before you fly

• Check that your Belarusian passport has at least six months of validity left on the day you land in Thailand, plus one completely blank page for the arrival stamp.
• Carry proof of an onward or return journey and be ready to show that you can fund your stay, since checks can ask for about 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.
• Fill in the Digital Arrival Card online no more than 72 hours before you land, whatever your visa status, and keep the QR code ready to show at immigration.
• If 15 days won't be enough for your plans, apply for the 60-day tourist e-Visa online before you travel, since Belarusians should allow roughly three to ten working days for processing.

Staying longer than 15 days

A Visa on Arrival stamp for Belarusians can't be extended once you're in the country, so if you already know 15 days won't cover your plans, arrange a 60-day tourist e-Visa before you travel instead. That e-Visa can later be extended once, for a further 30 days, at a Thai immigration office. Belarusians settling in for remote work or longer study should look at the Destination Thailand Visa, which runs for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, though it asks for proof of substantial funds and must be arranged before you leave home. Repeatedly leaving and re-entering on a fresh Visa on Arrival stamp isn't a sensible substitute for these routes, since immigration officers can question a pattern of short hops across the border.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Belarusians aren't among the nationalities allowed to use the automated e-gates, so you'll head to the Foreign Passport counters instead and go through the usual face-to-face check. An officer scans the QR code generated when you filed your Digital Arrival Card, so have it ready on your phone or printed out alongside your passport. Since Belarusians travel on Visa on Arrival, you'll also need to pay the arrival fee in cash before the stamp goes into your passport.
