Thailand visa for Cypriots 2026: 30 days visa-free

What changed for Cypriots on 15 September 2026

For years, Cypriots travelling to Thailand could count on a generous 60-day visa-free stay. That changed with a Ministry of Interior regulation published on 31 August 2026 and in force since 15 September 2026, which cut the visa-free period for Cypriot passport holders to 30 days. If you were stamped into Thailand before 15 September 2026, the 60 days already in your passport still stands; only entries from that date onward get the shorter stay. In practical terms, Cypriots now need to plan trips more tightly around a 30-day window, and anyone hoping to stay longer should look at the extension or e-Visa routes described below rather than assume the old allowance still applies.

Before you fly

• Check that your Cypriot passport has at least six months of validity left on the day you land in Thailand, plus one blank page for the entry stamp.
• Book or print proof of onward or return travel, since immigration officers can ask Cypriots arriving visa-free to show they are not staying beyond the 30-day stamp.
• Carry enough accessible funds to cover a spot check, as officers may ask for the Thai-baht equivalent of 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.
• File the Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours of your flight, since every Cypriot passport holder must submit it regardless of visa type; if you apply for an e-Visa instead, allow several working days before departure.

Staying longer than 30 days

If 30 days is not enough, Cypriots have genuine options rather than crossing a border repeatedly to reset the clock. Before your stamp expires, an immigration office can grant a single extension of up to 30 days for 1,900 THB. Applying for an e-Visa before travel instead gives Cypriots a 60-day single-entry stay, also extendable once by 30 days. Remote workers or long-course students can consider the Destination Thailand Visa, valid five years with stays of up to 180 days per entry, arranged from outside Thailand. Since land-border visa-free entries are capped at two a year, repeated short border hops are not a workable substitute for these routes.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Cypriots are not among the nationalities allowed to use the automated e-gates, so you queue at the Foreign Passport counters like most other travellers. An immigration officer checks your passport and applies the visa-free stamp there. Before you reach the counter, have your Digital Arrival Card ready, since officers scan the QR code it generates to confirm you have registered your details within the required 72 hours before landing, whatever type of visa or visa-free entry you are travelling on.
