Thailand visa for Hungarians 2026: 30 days visa-free

What changed for Hungarians on 15 September 2026

Until 14 September 2026, Hungarian passport holders arriving visa-free were stamped in for 60 days. A Ministry of Interior regulation, published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026, took effect on 15 September 2026 and cut that allowance to 30 days for Hungarians and other nationalities in the same visa-free category. If you were already stamped into Thailand before 15 September 2026, your passport keeps the original 60-day permission until it expires; the change only applies to entries from that date onward. For a Hungarian planning a trip now, this means building an itinerary around a single month rather than two, and checking the extension or e-Visa options if you need more time on the ground.

Before you fly

• Check that your Hungarian passport has at least six months of validity left on the day you land in Thailand, plus one blank page for the entry stamp.
• Carry proof of an onward or return journey and enough funds to cover your stay, since immigration officers can ask Hungarians to show at least 20,000 baht in cash or its equivalent.
• File the Digital Arrival Card in the 72 hours before your flight lands, using the Immigration Bureau's free portal, and keep the QR code ready to show on arrival.
• If you'd rather arrive with 60 days already secured, apply for the e-Visa online before you travel; processing usually takes between three and ten working days, so submit it well ahead of your flight.

Staying longer than 30 days

If 30 days isn't enough, Hungarians can apply for one extension of up to 30 days at a Thai immigration office before the stamp runs out, for 1,900 baht. Those who want 60 days from the outset can apply for an e-Visa before departure, usually processed within three to ten working days; it allows a single entry and can also be extended once by 30 days on the same terms. Hungarians working remotely or on a long course can consider the Destination Thailand Visa instead, valid for five years with stays of up to 180 days per entry, against proof of substantial funds. Repeatedly leaving and re-entering to reset the clock isn't a real option, since land crossings are capped at two visa-free entries a year.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Hungarians are among the nationalities allowed to use the automated arrival gates, provided you've already filed the Digital Arrival Card, this isn't your first visit to Thailand, and you're entering visa-free. The gate reads your passport and scans the QR code generated when you submitted the arrival card. First-time visitors, or anyone without a completed arrival card, use the staffed counters instead, where an officer checks the passport and scans the same QR code before stamping you in.
