Thailand visa for Mauritians 2026: 15 days visa-free

What changed for Mauritians on 15 September 2026

Until 14 September 2026, Mauritians travelling to Thailand without a visa could stay for 60 days at a time. A Ministry of Interior regulation published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026 created a new, shorter visa-free tier, and Mauritius was placed in it alongside one other country. From 15 September 2026, Mauritian passport holders arriving without a visa are granted 15 days instead. For a short holiday this is unlikely to matter, but anyone who used to plan a longer stay, or combine sightseeing with work or study time, now needs to look at other options. The stamp you receive at the border reflects this shorter allowance automatically, so check your return or onward travel fits inside those 15 days before you fly.

Before you fly

• Make sure your Mauritian passport has at least six months of validity left on the day you land in Thailand, plus one completely blank page for the immigration stamp.
• Carry proof of onward or return travel and be ready to show you have enough money for the trip, since officers can ask for around 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.
• File the Digital Arrival Card in the 72 hours before you land, since every foreign passport holder must submit it free of charge and have the QR code ready for immigration.
• If you need more than 15 days, apply for the e-Visa at thaievisa.go.th before you leave Mauritius, since approval usually takes 3 to 10 working days and cannot be arranged after arrival.

Staying longer than 15 days

The 15-day visa-free stamp cannot be extended at an immigration office, so if you want more time in Thailand you need to arrange it before you travel. Mauritians can apply for an e-Visa online, which gives a single entry of 60 days and can be extended once by 30 days locally for a fee. Those planning remote work or a longer course of study can look at the Destination Thailand Visa, valid for five years with stays of up to 180 days per entry, though it requires proof of substantial funds and must be applied for from outside Thailand. Leaving and re-entering by land repeatedly is not a workaround, since visa-free land crossings for Mauritian passport holders are capped at two per calendar year.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Mauritians are not among the nationalities allowed to use the automatic e-gates, so you will queue at the Foreign Passport counters like most other visitors. An immigration officer checks your Mauritian passport and scans the QR code generated when you filed your Digital Arrival Card, so have it saved on your phone or printed and ready. Keep your passport and arrival-card confirmation accessible, since these are what the officer needs before stamping you in for your 15-day stay.
