Thailand visa for Qataris 2026: 30 days visa-free

What changed for Qataris on 15 September 2026

Until 14 September 2026, Qatari passport holders arriving visa-free were stamped in for 60 days. A Ministry of Interior regulation published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026 took effect on 15 September 2026, cutting that allowance to 30 days for Qataris entering from that date onward. If your passport was stamped before 15 September, the 60 days already in your passport still stands — the change only applies to entries from that date. For a Qatari planning a trip now, this means a shorter runway to see friends, do business or explore before you either leave, apply for an extension, or look at longer-stay options such as the e-Visa or the Destination Thailand Visa if your plans stretch beyond a month.

Before you fly

• Make sure your Qatari passport has at least six months of validity left on the day you land in Thailand, plus one blank page free for the entry stamp.
• Keep proof of onward or return travel ready to show, since Thai immigration can ask for it as part of confirming you plan to leave within the 30-day stamp.
• Carry accessible funds in case of a spot check, since officers can ask Qataris travelling alone for 20,000 THB or a family for 40,000 THB in cash or equivalent.
• File the Digital Arrival Card in the 72 hours before your flight lands, using the Immigration Bureau's portal, since every Qatari passport holder needs the QR code ready for scanning on arrival.

Staying longer than 30 days

If 30 days isn't enough, Qataris can request one extension of up to 30 days at a Thai immigration office, for 1,900 THB, lodged before the existing stamp expires. Another route is applying ahead for an e-Visa at thaievisa.go.th, which grants a single 60-day entry and can also be extended once for the same fee. Remote workers or long-course students might instead look at the Destination Thailand Visa: five years long, up to 180 days per entry, but it needs proof of 500,000 THB in funds and must be arranged before leaving Qatar. Re-entering by land to reset the clock isn't practical either, since visa-free land crossings are capped at two per calendar year.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Qataris are not among the nationalities allowed through the automated e-gates, so you'll head to the Foreign Passport counters and go through immigration with an officer. Have your Digital Arrival Card ready, since the QR code generated after you file it online is what the officer scans, alongside your passport, to confirm your details and process the 30-day stamp. Keep the confirmation accessible on your phone or printed until you're through the counter.
