What changed for Moroccans on 15 September 2026

Until 14 September 2026, Moroccans could fly into Thailand and receive 60 days on arrival without any paperwork beforehand, part of a wider exemption that had covered dozens of nationalities since July 2024. That exemption was withdrawn on 15 September 2026, and Morocco was not carried onto the shorter list of countries kept on the new arrangement. In practice, this means a Moroccan passport no longer opens the border on its own: you now need a visa or e-Visa arranged before departure, and airline staff check for it at check-in, so turning up without one risks being refused boarding rather than just being questioned on landing. Anyone planning a trip from Morocco should build the application into their timeline rather than leaving it until the airport.

Before you fly

• Check that your Moroccan passport has at least six months of validity left on your arrival date and still has a blank page free, since Thai immigration can refuse entry without both.
• Book or hold an onward or return ticket and apply for your Thai e-Visa well in advance, since Moroccans need approval before departure and proof of leaving Thailand at the border.
• Carry proof of enough cash or accessible funds, since immigration officers can ask Moroccan travellers to show money on the spot and an inability to prove it can complicate entry.
• File your Digital Arrival Card online in the 72 hours before landing, since every Moroccan passport holder must submit it regardless of visa type before the QR code is checked.

Staying longer than the visa allows

If 60 days on an e-Visa isn't enough, Moroccans can apply once for a 30-day extension at a Thai immigration office, paying 1,900 THB, which covers a longer holiday without leaving the country. Those planning remote work or a longer course of study can instead look at the Destination Thailand Visa, which runs for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, provided you can show the required funds and apply from outside Thailand beforehand. Slipping across a land border and back to reset the clock is not a workable substitute: the twice-a-year cap on visa-exempt crossings no longer even applies to Moroccans, since entry now depends on holding a proper visa in the first place.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Moroccans are not among the nationalities allowed through the automated e-gates, so head for the Foreign Passport counters instead and expect a face-to-face check by an immigration officer. Have your passport ready alongside the QR code from your Digital Arrival Card, which the officer scans along with your visa or e-Visa before stamping you in. Keep both the paper and digital versions accessible until you clear the counter, since a Moroccan passport without a readable QR code can slow down an otherwise routine check.
