What changed for Barbadians on 15 September 2026

Until 14 September 2026, Barbadians could fly to Thailand and receive 60 days on arrival with no visa at all, as part of an exemption that covered 93 nationalities. That exemption was withdrawn on 15 September 2026, and Barbados was left off the shorter list of 60 countries that kept visa-free access. In practice, this means Barbadian passport holders can no longer turn up at a Thai airport and expect an entry stamp; the trip has to be arranged in advance through a visa or e-Visa application. Airlines check for this at the gate, so travellers who board without one risk being turned away before they even reach Thailand. Anyone who last visited before the change should treat the old visa-free routine as no longer available.

Before you fly

• Check that your Barbadian passport has at least six months of validity left on your travel date and still has a blank page free, since Thai immigration can refuse entry without both.
• Apply for your e-Visa through the online portal at thaievisa.go.th well before you fly, since Barbadian applications typically take three to ten working days to process.
• Carry enough cash or accessible funds to cover a spot check, since officers can ask to see 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB for a family travelling together.
• File the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within 72 hours of landing, whatever visa you travel on, since the QR code it gives you gets scanned when you land.

Staying longer than the visa allows

For Barbadians who want more time in Thailand than a single trip allows, the practical route starts with an e-Visa, which grants a single 60-day stay and can be extended once, for 30 more days, at an immigration office for 1,900 THB. If you plan to work remotely or study a longer course, the Destination Thailand Visa runs for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, though it asks for proof of 500,000 THB in funds and must be arranged from outside the country. Slipping across a land border and back is not a workaround: the twice-a-year limit on repeat crossings applies to visa-exempt travellers, a category Barbadians no longer belong to, so every re-entry still needs a valid visa or e-Visa in hand.

At the airport

At passport control, Barbadians can't use the automated arrival gates at Suvarnabhumi, since this passport isn't among the nationalities cleared for that lane; you'll instead join the Foreign Passport counters and deal with an immigration officer directly. Have your Digital Arrival Card ready, because the QR code it generates is what the officer scans, alongside your passport and visa, before you're allowed through. Keeping the confirmation easy to find on your phone saves time in the queue.
