What changed for Monegasques on 15 September 2026

Until 14 September 2026, Monegasques could fly to Thailand and receive 60 days on arrival with no visa at all. That exemption was part of a wider scheme covering dozens of nationalities, and it was withdrawn on 15 September 2026, with Monaco left off the shorter list of countries still allowed to enter without one. For a Monegasque passport holder, this means the free entry stamp at the airport is no longer available, whatever the purpose or length of the trip. You now need to sort out a visa or an e-Visa before you leave Monaco, since airline staff check for it at check-in and will refuse boarding if it is missing. Arriving without one is not an option any more.

Before you fly

• Check that your Monegasque passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date and has a blank page free for the immigration stamp, since officers can refuse entry otherwise.
• Book your onward or return flight before you travel, since Thai immigration and airline staff may ask Monegasques to show proof that they intend to leave within their permitted stay.
• Carry enough cash or accessible funds, since spot checks can require 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family, and Monegasques without proof risk being turned back at the border.
• Apply for your e-Visa online well before departure, since processing can take 3 to 10 working days, and complete the Digital Arrival Card inside 72 hours of landing in Thailand.

Staying longer than the visa allows

If a 60-day e-Visa is not long enough, Monegasques can apply at an immigration office for a single 30-day extension, paying 1,900 THB, which pushes the stay to 90 days in total. Anyone planning remote work or a longer course of study should look at the Destination Thailand Visa instead, which runs for five years and allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, though it calls for proof of 500,000 THB in funds and is applied for from outside Thailand. What does not work for Monegasques is leaving and re-entering Thailand purely to reset the clock: since visas are now compulsory, there is no visa-free allowance left to renew this way, and repeated short hops invite scrutiny rather than extra time.

At the airport

At Suvarnabhumi, Monegasques are not among the nationalities allowed to use the automated immigration gates, so you will go through the Foreign Passport counters instead and deal with an officer face to face. Have your Digital Arrival Card ready, since the QR code it generates is what the officer scans alongside your passport and visa or e-Visa. Keep the confirmation accessible on your phone or printed, as it speeds up the check and avoids delay at the counter for Monegasque travellers.
