Thailand visa for Sammarinese 2026: e-Visa needed
Since 15 September 2026, Sammarinese passport holders need a visa before they can enter Thailand, as the country no longer qualifies for visa-free entry. Before that date a Sammarinese passport allowed a 60-day stay without a visa, but that exemption has been withdrawn, so you now need a visa or e-Visa arranged ahead of your flight.

What changed for Sammarinese on 15 September 2026
Until 14 September 2026, a Sammarinese passport was part of a group of 93 nationalities allowed to enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days, under an exemption granted in July 2024. That arrangement was withdrawn on 15 September 2026, when the exemption was repealed and replaced with a shorter list of 60 countries that does not include San Marino. In practical terms, Sammarinese travellers can no longer simply land in Thailand and receive a stamp at the border. You now need to secure a visa or an e-Visa before you leave home, since airline staff check visa status at check-in and will not board passengers who lack the right paperwork for Thailand.
Before you fly
- Check that your Sammarinese passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Thailand and has at least one blank page free for stamps.
- Carry proof of onward or return travel and be ready to show at least 20,000 THB per person, or 40,000 THB for a family, if immigration asks.
- If you are applying for a tourist e-Visa, submit your application through thaievisa.go.th well before departure, since processing usually takes three to ten working days.
- Complete the Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours of landing in Thailand; it is free to file and the QR code you receive is checked on arrival.
Staying longer than the visa allows
If a Sammarinese passport holder wants more time than the initial stamp allows, there are legitimate routes rather than repeated trips across a land border. A tourist e-Visa runs for 60 days and can be extended once, for a further 30 days, at an immigration office for 1,900 THB. Those planning remote work or a longer course of study can look at the Destination Thailand Visa, which runs for five years and permits stays of up to 180 days per entry, subject to proof of 500,000 THB in funds. Land-border runs are not a sound approach, since the twice-a-year limit on crossings applies to visa-exempt entries, and Sammarinese passports no longer qualify for that route anyway.
At the airport
On arrival at Suvarnabhumi, Sammarinese travellers are not among the nationalities allowed to use the automated e-gates, so you should head to the Foreign Passport counters instead. An immigration officer there will check your passport and visa, along with the Digital Arrival Card you filed in the 72 hours before landing. Have the QR code from that arrival card ready on your phone or printed, since it is scanned at the counter as part of the entry process for every Sammarinese passport holder.
