Thai visa documents in 2026: checklist and expiry dates

The DTV needs a passport page, a photo, proof of funds, a purpose document and, since 31 August 2026, proof of permanent residence and a criminal record certificate. The tourist visa needs a passport page, a photo, flights, a booking, a bank statement and, at some posts, proof of where you live.

If your post states no age for the police certificate, submit within 3 months of its issue date. That meets the strictest limit we found. See police clearance.

Order to collect them in

  1. Residence proof. It decides which embassy you use. See proof of residence.
  2. Purpose document. Contract, portfolio, school or hospital letter, or proof of relationship.
  3. Funds. Let the statement period run. See proof of funds.
  4. Photo. Recent, in the format your post names.
  5. Police certificate. Last, so it is recent.
  6. Translations. Washington DC asks for certified English translations of documents issued outside the US and Thailand.

Quality of files

Upload clear PDFs. Unclear files can lead to a request for more documents, and that slows the decision. Your name, the dates and the balance must show on every statement page.

Before you upload

  1. Every document is inside its time limit on the day you submit.
  2. Names match across passport, statements, letters and bookings.
  3. Documents not in English have a certified translation, if your post asks.
  4. Each file opens and every page is readable.
  5. You did not pay for an apostille that no page asks for. Thailand joins the Apostille Convention on 28 February 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Which DTV documents are new in 2026?

Proof of permanent residence in the country where you apply, which replaces the old "document indicating current location", and a criminal record certificate. Both apply from 31 August 2026.

Which document should I get last?

The police certificate, because several posts want it under 3 months old. At Fukuoka, the bank statement must also be issued within 1 month.

How recent must my photo be?

London and Paris ask for a photo taken within 6 months. Washington DC says the same for the tourist visa.

Do I need to translate my documents?

Washington DC asks for certified English translations of documents issued outside the US and Thailand. Check your own post.
