1. Passport
- Valid for at least 6 months from your travel date (Washington: "valid within 6 months from travel date").
- Helsinki asks for 12 months of validity and two empty pages for the METV (page dated November 2023).
Upload the page with your photo and personal data. Make the scan sharp and uncropped.

For an online upload, use a recent, plain-background, full-face photo in JPEG, at the size your embassy states. London warns that if the photo does not reflect your current appearance, you may be refused entry to the Kingdom.
3. Flight proof
- Washington: the itinerary must show your name, travel dates, airports and flight numbers for arrival and departure.
- Los Angeles: the flights should show travel between the US and Thailand and back.
- London METV: an outbound ticket is required.
A one-way ticket with no exit plan is a weak document for a 60-day visa. Show how you leave.
4. Accommodation proof
- A hotel or rental booking for the whole stay, with your name and dates.
- Washington accepts booking confirmations or an invitation from family or friends in Thailand.
- If you stay with a Thai citizen, the MFA general checklist asks for an invitation letter and the host's house registration.
If you plan to move between places, list each stay. Do not upload bookings you do not plan to use.
5. Bank statement
The amount and the number of months change by embassy. The full table by post is in the tourist visa 2026 guide. What the statement must show:
- Your name, the account number, the balance and the transactions (MFA checklist, 2023).
- The ending balance for each month. Washington asks for at least USD 700 per month per person.
- An original or bank-issued PDF. Cairo asks for an original, stamped statement.
Two US posts state different family amounts: Washington USD 2,000, Los Angeles USD 1,500. Follow the page of the post that covers your state.
Joint and family accounts: Cairo accepts a parent's or spouse's statement with a marriage or birth certificate. Ask your own embassy before you rely on a joint account.
Do not move money into the account only for the visa. Show your real savings.
6. Proof of where you live
- Washington asks for a "document indicating current location", such as a driver's licence, a bank statement or proof of stay.
- Washington asks non-citizens for a green card or a valid US visa, plus a hand-signed employment letter.
- London METV: utility bills with your name and address, for residents of the UK, Ireland and UK territories.
- Canberra: non-Australian residents add a VEVO check.
7. Extra papers
- Minors under 20 (Washington): birth certificate, the parents' marriage certificate or custody order, both parents' passports, and notarised consent for solo travel.
- Documents not in English: Washington asks for certified English translations.
- Self-employed: a business licence, business registration with your name, or tax returns (Washington).
Before you upload
- Names match across passport, tickets, bookings and bank statement.
- Flight and hotel dates line up.
- The statement covers the full number of months your post names.
- Every file opens and is readable.
- The fee is correct for your embassy and visa type.

Frequently asked questions
What size photo do I need for a Thai tourist visa?
It depends on the embassy: 2 x 2 inch at Los Angeles and Pretoria, 4 x 6 cm at Moscow, 3 x 4 cm at Cairo. All ask for a recent photo, taken within 6 months where stated.
Do I need a return ticket?
Washington asks for an itinerary with arrival and departure flights. London asks for an outbound ticket for the METV.
How many months of bank statements do I need?
Usually the last 3 months. Some posts ask for 6 months for the METV. See the funds table in the tourist visa 2026 guide.
Can I use a joint or family account?
Cairo accepts a parent's or spouse's statement with a marriage or birth certificate. Other posts do not say; ask your embassy.
