Facts at a glance
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Issuing body | Krajowy Rejestr Karny (KRK), Ministry of Justice |
| Certificate | Zaświadczenie o niekaralności. Do not use the multilingual form: it is for Polish nationals and for use inside the EU. |
| How to order | At a KRK information point, on the e-KRK platform, or by post with a form and proof of payment. |
| Fee | PLN 30 on paper, PLN 20 electronic. |
| Time | Usually on the spot. Up to 20 working days for EU citizens. |
| Apostille | No Warsaw page we read asks for an apostille. KRK does not issue one; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does. Do not order one unless the embassy asks. |
| Translation | The certificate is in Polish only. A sworn English translation (tłumacz przysięgły) is the safe choice; check with the embassy. |
| Thai embassy limit | Most embassies accept 3 to 6 months; get it as close to your application as you can. |
The Warsaw embassy page was last updated on 25 July 2024, before the change of 31 August 2026. It still lists the old "document indicating current location" and no police certificate. Use the list in the e-Visa system, which includes the certificate.

Why the Warsaw page needs care
| What the 2024 Warsaw page says | What applies since 31 Aug 2026 |
|---|---|
| Document indicating current location | Proof of permanent residence |
| No police certificate | Criminal record certificate required |
| DTV fee PLN 1,575 | Check the e-Visa system for the current fee |
| Bank statement in English or sworn English translation | Still a useful guide for any Polish document |
Do not follow the 2024 checklist on its own. The e-Visa system shows the current list for your application.
How to order the KRK certificate, step by step
- Prepare your other documents first. Funds and residence proof. The KRK certificate is fast, so order it last.
- Choose paper or electronic. Paper costs PLN 30, e-KRK costs PLN 20. Ask Warsaw if it accepts the e-KRK PDF.
- Apply at a KRK information point, on the e-KRK platform, or by post with the form and proof of payment.
- Receive the certificate. Usually on the spot. EU citizens may wait up to 20 working days.
- Order a sworn English translation (tłumacz przysięgły).
- Submit the DTV on thaievisa.go.th before the certificate becomes too old.
Timeline plan
Warsaw states no age limit. Submit before the certificate is 3 months old. That is the strictest limit stated by any Thai post we read. See the age limits by embassy.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 to 2 weeks before you submit | Get the KRK certificate (EU citizens: 4 to 5 weeks before) |
| The next days | Sworn English translation |
| Before the certificate turns 3 months old | Apply and pay on thaievisa.go.th |
Costs to plan for
| Item | Amount | Source | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| KRK certificate, paper | PLN 30 | KRK | Confirmed |
| KRK certificate, electronic | PLN 20 | KRK | Confirmed |
| Sworn translation | Set by the translator | None | Plan for it |
| DTV at Warsaw | PLN 1,575 | Warsaw page of 25 Jul 2024 | Official, but from 2024. Check the e-Visa system |
Translation and apostille
Get a sworn English translation of the Polish certificate. Warsaw asks for bank statements in English or with a sworn English translation, which points the same way, but no page we read states the rule for the certificate.
No Warsaw page we read asks for an apostille. If you need one, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues it, not KRK. Thailand joins the Apostille Convention on 28 February 2027, so a Polish apostille may not be enough for use in Thailand before that date. The general rules are on the police clearance hub.
Common mistakes
- Following the Warsaw checklist of 2024.
- Uploading the Polish certificate without a translation.
- Using the multilingual standard form (PLN 17). It is a translation aid for use in the EU, not a stand-alone document for Thailand.
- Paying for an apostille that no page asks for.
- Expecting KRK to arrange the apostille. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does it.
Before you apply
- You used the e-Visa list, not the Warsaw page of 2024.
- Your KRK certificate is less than 3 months old on the day you submit.
- It has a sworn English translation.
- Your residence proof shows permanent residence in Poland.
- You checked the current DTV fee in the e-Visa system.
Want a second look at the whole file? Use the DTV pre-check. The embassy makes the decision.
Not confirmed yet
No official page we read states these points. Ask your embassy before you pay or submit.
- The maximum age of the certificate at Warsaw.
- Whether Warsaw accepts the e-KRK PDF.
- Whether Warsaw still covers residents of Ukraine.
- The DTV fee at Warsaw after 2024.
Frequently asked questions
Which Polish certificate do I need for the DTV?
The zaświadczenie o niekaralności from the Krajowy Rejestr Karny (KRK).
How much does it cost?
PLN 30 on paper or PLN 20 as an electronic e-KRK certificate.
Is the KRK certificate in English?
No. It is issued in Polish only. You arrange the translation. A sworn English translation is the safe choice.
Can I use the multilingual standard form?
It is a translation aid for Polish nationals for use inside the EU. It is not a stand-alone document, so it does not replace a translation for Thailand.
Is the Warsaw embassy page current?
The page was last updated on 25 July 2024. It does not show the change of 31 August 2026. Use the e-Visa list.
How old can the certificate be?
