What the embassy pages say
No two embassies ask for exactly the same set. This table shows what we read on 22 Oct 2026.
| Embassy | Employee proof | Freelancer or owner proof |
|---|---|---|
| London | Employment contract (the page names "employment contract or portfolio") | Professional portfolio |
| Washington DC | Employment contract | Professional portfolio |
| Singapore[3] | Company letter that explains your work and allows remote work, contract, 3 months of salary slips | Portfolio, plus ACRA business profile or company registration |
| Paris[4] | Contract or company attestation, company registration, a recent payslip | Portfolio, business registration, an invoice under 3 months old, proof of the bank transfer |
| Madrid[6] | Work contract | Portfolio |
| Oslo[5] | Employment contract or certificate in their country | Portfolio |
Singapore's page still lists a lease as proof of a current Singapore address, next to the new rules. Paris and Singapore ask for more than London or Washington DC. Do not assume the short list is enough. The Oslo embassy says it is better to ask than to assume you qualify as a digital nomad.

Documents that help an employee
- A contract or certificate that names you, your job and your employer.
- A letter on company paper that says you work remotely and may do so from abroad. Singapore asks for this.
- Recent payslips. Paris asks for one. Singapore asks for three months.
- Company registration papers of the employer. Paris and Singapore ask for them.
A letter should have a date, a signature and a contact person. A screenshot or an unclear file can lead to a request for more documents, and London warns that this delays the visa.
Documents that help a freelancer or business owner
- A portfolio that shows real work, clients and dates.
- Business registration or a company extract in your own country.
- Recent invoices and proof of payment. Paris wants an invoice under 3 months old and proof of the transfer.
- Contracts or statements of work with clients.
Make the story consistent. The name on the portfolio, the invoices and the bank statements must match your passport. If your work is mostly in a field that is hard to show (for example, consulting for a few clients), add client letters.
Funds
The workcation category also needs 500,000 THB or the local figure your post sets. Singapore adds three months of salary slips to the statements. The amounts and periods by embassy are on proof of funds.
What changed on 31 August 2026
Every workcation applicant now also needs two items from the Department of Consular Affairs notice of 28 Aug 2026:
- Proof of permanent residence in the country where you apply. See proof of residence.
- A criminal record certificate. See police clearance.
Applications filed before 31 August 2026 follow the old rules. Everything since then follows the new rules. Several embassies accept only nationals or permanent residents of their country. Read which embassy.
Work for Thai clients
Embassy pages describe the workcation category as remote work, and the proof they ask for is about work done for employers or clients in your home country. We did not find an official page that states a rule on Thai employers or Thai-sourced income. Do not guess. If your income comes from a Thai company or Thai clients, ask your embassy before you apply and ask Thai immigration or a Thai lawyer about work permits.
Common mistakes
- A contract with no dates, or an unsigned letter.
- A portfolio with no clients, no dates and no links to real work.
- Documents in a language other than English with no certified translation. London and Washington DC say foreign documents need a certified English translation, and both ask for notarization (read each page for who may notarize).
- Bank statements that do not show your name, the balance and the dates.
- A name or address that differs between the contract, the bank and the passport.
- Using the short list from one embassy at an embassy that asks for more.
Time
Paris says processing takes about 4 weeks, or longer if documents are incomplete. Singapore asks you to apply at least 21 working days before travel. The fee at each embassy is in the DTV requirements guide.
Outline of an employer letter
This outline combines what Singapore and Paris ask for. Adapt it to your post.
- Company letterhead, with address and registration number.
- Date, and the name and role of the person who signs.
- Your full name as in your passport, your job title and your start date.
- A sentence that you work remotely and may do so from Thailand.
- The contact details of the signer.
- A handwritten or verified signature.
Before you apply
- You know which proof your post asks for: employee or freelancer.
- Every letter is dated, signed and on letterhead.
- Names match across the contract, the invoices, the bank statements and the passport.
- Freelancers have a portfolio with real clients and dates, plus business registration.
- Documents not in English have a certified translation.
You apply and pay yourself on thaievisa.go.th. If you want a second pair of eyes on your files before you pay, use the DTV pre-check. The embassy decides.
Not confirmed yet
No official page we read states these points. Ask your embassy before you pay or submit.
- Whether London asks non-UK citizens for an employer letter.
- Any rule on Thai employers or Thai-sourced income.
Frequently asked questions
What proof of remote work does the DTV need?
Most posts accept an employment contract or employer certificate, or a professional portfolio for freelancers. Singapore and Paris ask for more, such as payslips and company registration.

Yes. The posts name a professional portfolio. Paris adds business registration, an invoice under 3 months old and proof of the bank transfer.
Do I need payslips?
Paris asks for a recent payslip. Singapore asks for three months of salary slips.
Can I work for Thai clients on a DTV?
We found no official page with a rule on Thai employers or Thai-sourced income. Ask your embassy, and ask Thai immigration or a Thai lawyer about work permits.
Does the employer letter need to say I can work from abroad?
Singapore asks for a company letter that explains your work and allows remote work.
